Tooth Extraction (Simple)

Simple tooth extraction is a routine dental procedure used to remove teeth that are damaged, severely decayed, or no longer restorable. Unlike surgical extractions, simple extractions are performed on teeth that are fully visible in the mouth and can be removed without incisions or bone removal. The goal of extraction is to eliminate pain, prevent infection, and protect surrounding oral structures.

Teeth may require extraction due to extensive decay, advanced gum disease, trauma, or overcrowding. In some cases, extractions are performed as part of orthodontic treatment or to prepare the mouth for prosthetic replacements. Leaving a severely compromised tooth untreated can lead to infection, abscess formation, and damage to neighboring teeth and bone.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia to ensure comfort. The dentist gently loosens the tooth using specialized instruments and removes it with controlled force. Once extracted, the socket is cleaned, and gauze is placed to control bleeding and promote clot formation. The process is typically quick and minimally invasive.

Recovery following a simple extraction is generally uncomplicated. Patients may experience mild discomfort or swelling, which resolves within a few days. Proper aftercare, including avoiding smoking, following dietary instructions, and maintaining oral hygiene, is essential to prevent complications such as dry socket. Simple tooth extraction remains a safe and effective solution when tooth preservation is no longer possible.
