Kidney Biopsy
Kidney biopsy is a critical diagnostic procedure that allows direct histological examination of renal tissue, enabling precise diagnosis, prognostication, and targeted treatment of complex kidney diseases. At IMH, kidney biopsies are performed by experienced nephrologists using image-guided techniques and strict safety protocols.
Indications include unexplained acute kidney injury, persistent proteinuria, nephrotic syndrome, hematuria with renal impairment, suspected immune-mediated kidney disease, transplant dysfunction, and systemic diseases with renal involvement.
Biopsies are performed under real-time ultrasound guidance, ensuring accurate needle placement while minimizing complications. Pre-procedure evaluation includes coagulation assessment, blood pressure optimization, and imaging to confirm kidney anatomy.
Renal tissue is analyzed using light microscopy, immunofluorescence, and electron microscopy, providing comprehensive diagnostic insight. Findings guide treatment decisions, including immunosuppressive therapy, conservative management, or long-term prognostic planning.
Post-procedure monitoring includes bed rest, serial vital signs, urine assessment, and imaging if required. Complications are rare when performed under controlled conditions.
At IMH, biopsy results are integrated directly into patient-specific treatment pathways, ensuring rapid translation from diagnosis to therapy.
