Head & Neck Tumors and Infections
The head and neck region contains vital structures responsible for breathing, swallowing, speech, and appearance. Tumors and deep infections in this area require prompt and expert surgical management to prevent airway compromise, spread of infection, or permanent functional damage.
Conditions include benign and malignant tumors of the neck, salivary glands, thyroid-related infections, deep neck abscesses, lymph node enlargement, and soft tissue infections. Patients may present with neck swelling, persistent pain, fever, difficulty swallowing, voice changes, breathing difficulty, or unexplained weight loss.
Diagnosis involves clinical examination, ultrasound, CT scan, MRI, and biopsy to determine the nature and extent of disease. Early diagnosis is critical, particularly for malignant tumors, where timely surgery improves survival and functional outcomes.
Surgical treatment may involve tumor excision, lymph node dissection, abscess drainage, or combined surgery with ENT and oncology teams. At IMH, surgical planning prioritizes complete disease removal while preserving nerves, blood vessels, airway integrity, and cosmetic appearance.
Minimally invasive and image-guided techniques are used when appropriate. Post-operative care includes airway monitoring, infection control, rehabilitation, and oncology coordination if required.
