Post Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)
Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) is a surgical revascularization procedure indicated for complex or multivessel coronary artery disease. While CABG improves myocardial perfusion and survival, it does not cure atherosclerosis.
Post-CABG care is lifelong and centers on graft preservation, secondary prevention, and functional recovery. Vein grafts are particularly susceptible to atherosclerotic degeneration if risk factors are not adequately controlled.
Management includes antiplatelet therapy, statins, strict blood pressure and diabetes control, smoking cessation, and structured cardiac rehabilitation. Regular follow-up is essential to monitor graft patency, ventricular function, and progression of native coronary disease.
With optimal long-term management, post-CABG patients can achieve excellent functional capacity and reduced cardiovascular mortality.
